I was contacted by the Irrepressible Wing of Scotland's
Frank Zapatistas yesterday about a stunt they were
pulling on Edinburgh's Princes Street and the Royal Mile. As you
can see (below), they have replaced both street signs
with William Wallace Street and The Wallace Mile
instead. I went down to check out their handywork and
sure enough, they're up there. How long for I don't
know, but I'm hoping to squeeze it into the papers.
Anyone give a damn? I thought it was a neat, if futile
experiment. Ho hum...

"Message from The Irrepressible Wing of Scotland's
Frank Zapatistas

We the IW of the SFZ have renamed Princes Street in
Edinburgh to
William Wallace Street on this day the 23rd of August
2005 to
commemorate the death and martyrdom of one, William
Wallace, rebel
patriot hero of all Scotland, which took place seven
hundred years ago
today (23rd of August 1305).

The Princes of Princes Street were drunken German
oafs whose memory
does not deserve to be commemorated in the capital of
Scotland. Hence
the renaming of Princes Street to William Wallace
Street.

Similarly, The Royal Mile in Edinburgh has been
renamed The Wallace
Mile in memory of the blows struck for freedom and
independence by
said, William Wallace.

When Scotland is finally free these name changes will
become permament.

Long Live The Scottish Republic!"

Errrrr you been watching too many re-runs of "Braveheart" ? Wallace the patriot etc..?

Good for a laugh though and what does the name of a street matter, it's the people in it who are important.
