John Sutherland - Watten Station (watten House) 1874 - 1879

I am looking for information about my great grandfather JOHN SUTHERLAND.
According to the IGI he was born on 29 August 1847 at Golspie, Sutherland,
and was the eldest son of ALEXANDER SUTHERLAND and MARGARET MACRAE.
JOHN SUTHERLAND was married to MARJORY DUNBAR (DUNBARS OF FORSE) of
Latheron and they lived at WATTEN STATION. They had a son, possibly called ALEXANDER. Marjory died at Watten Station and he was listed on her
death certificate as being a Platelayer at the time. JOHN SUTHERLAND married her sister WILLIAMINA DUNBAR a while later and they emigrated to
South Africa in 1880 where he worked for the South African Railways.
JOHN SUTHERLAND at some stage returned to Sutherland, Scotland where he
died, possibly Lairg as that is where his parents are buried. WILLIAMINA
SUTHERLAND died and is buried at Pretoria, South Africa.

Should read: Son of ALEXANDER SUTHERLAND and JANE ROBERTSON (of Loth,
daughter of JOHN ROBERTSON). Alexander's parents were John Sutherland
and Magaret Macrae.:D

Roni, there seems to be a great deal of information about descendants, including this:

Alexandrina Sutherland was born in Caithness, Scotland, the eldest daughter of her parents John and Williamina (although she had an older half brother, born to her father's first wife, who died after childbirth).

Death: 7 Dec 1972 in Durban, South Africa

Hi James, Alexandrina Sutherland (married Crouch) was my grandfather
John David Dunbar Sutherland's elder sister. I am most interested in his
ancestors. Yes, I do have many Sutherland connected cousins around
the world, some known but most unknown. :DRoni

Thanks James, I have tried to click on the relevant Sutherland but it won't
open for me. I do however recognise the source - the information of which was
taken from my grandfather's death certificate, and not without some
inaccuracies such as my father's birth date. Parts of this information are thus

James, I thought I would let you know that I have discovered that my
g,g, grandmother was MARGARET MACKAY and not MARGARET MACRAE as
stated on the IGI. This in turn has led to my correct family tree and the
