Yes, it's amazingly and collosally stupid that the police would chase an 11 yr old driver at 100mph on roads with a 55 mph speed limit. They could have just picked 'em up later.

Stupid of the parents as well.

And just how do you suppose the police are going to determine the age of the driver in a car going 100 mph? Psychics?

That said, there are sometimes car chases that are mis-handled by the police when they are too aggressive in pursuit. Over the years they have modified policy in many areas to the point that they will let the driver go, or trail from far back, if they speed into a built-up area or in heavy traffic. In cities like LA where they have plenty helicopters they will sometimes pull back and let just the chopper trail the car, while other officers try to get ahead and cut it off. Not so easy in many rural areas with no air cover. The rural cops also may not have many past incidents to go on, whereas in LA it's practically a spectator sport!
