It is difficult to get a dentist, and as far as I am aware they are mostly private. My sister registered at a dentist in Wick and had to pay over £300 to register and get fillings for herself and her 2 primary school age children, she did not realise she had to pay for the kids until she got the bill!!! She refused a scale and polish and told the dentist she would not be back until she had saved up some money. I am with a Thurso dentist and pay private for myself but my 2 children are still on the NHS. Seems reasonable, but I have paid my taxes and NI conts, so why should I have to shell out the whole time for dental care. Medical/dental care are getting more like the USA, and the more you earn the more you pay out. People who do not work get free treatment (if they can find an NHS dentist?)

make an apointment with a dentist then make an appointment with your bank manager to pay for the treatment

It's nothing but a sheer disgrace the way dentists are opting out of the NHS. Don't give me any crap about better care for patients, it is nothing other than sheer greed!!! [mad]

With regard to rainbows coments on people who do not work getting their dental treatment for free, if your husband/wife/partner work you do not get free dental treatment.
You get free dental treatment if both of you are out of work and as for paying for school children, why did they not go to Mr Nicol the school dentist? [mad]

NHS patients have to pay for treatment too

I got a tooth out 2 weeks ago and i got a bill the other day for £13.52, i know its a lot less than if u were private but it wasn't free!!

I was back at the dentist with an infection 2 days later and all she did was look at it and i got a bill today for £5.64, which should of been free!!

I am waiting for a bill from a wick dentist i was at last thurs, as i got a filling, so i wonder if i will get a bill from them also, no doubt i will next week

What i don't understand is u go in sign a form so they can get the money for the treatment from the NHS or whoever,so how can they still send u a bill??

No problem with a straighforward S & P. Just book it direct with your local dental hygenist.

Veneers are more complicated and expensive. Dentists do a 3D scan and make a mould of your chompers. The veneering is performed by specialists down south ( Glasgow ?) as i understand it.

Did anyone see the article in the Daily record recently about a Thurso Dentist who has taken over an Ayrshire or possibly Lanarkshire NHS dental practivce closed it down to its 5 - 6 thousand patients and reopened it as a 1000 member only practice. with monthy membership fees.

Local MP reported this case to police as extortion??

Anyone hear of any follow up ??

Whats the problem??? go to bridge street, break window, appear in court for £50.00 fine, dont pay, get 7 days in Portafield and on arrival complain of tooth ache, immediate treatment, teeth fixed and cleaned, 7 days board and lodgings....no problem.

And over here those incarcerated are placed at the top of the organ transplant waiting list. Totally ridiculous.
