Did anyone else 'out west' experience their telephone line down yesterday?Wwe were on line at 3pm and suddenly the PC disconnected, picked up the phone to ring Virgin.net on their freephone number; line was dead. Used mobile to ring BT 'repairs' said area all down, problem with exchange, will be back on in two hours. Two and half hours later, still no joy, rang again "back on in one hour". At 7.30 pm still nothing, so sod this, drove out to see what was going on in exchange. No-one there, thought would try phonebox by Manse, Strathy, met by orange flashing lights and FIVE BT vans, parked up by start of 'new' section of the A836 being built by Highland Quality Construction. Pulled and and asked BT chap what was problem. Seems HQC digger had ripped up and broke the main fibre-optic cable "take another 4-5 hours to fix" says the man. SO, if any of you 'outwest' wondered why your phone was down, you now know
