Cans Comeback Again 13-Aug-2005

After a slow start to the game it was the visitors who took a shock lead through the returning striker Jamie Mackenzie. The striker had broken in to the box only to be denied by Andy Matheson, who pushed the ball out for a corner but when the corner was played out to Gary Farquhar, who side stepped one challenge before rifling goalwards, Jamie Mackenzie was on hand to pick u the scraps after Ally Mackenzie parried the initial shot.

Forres' first chance of note saw Hamish Munro win the ball 25 yards from goal and feed Mike Sanderson however, uncharacteristically, he sliced his effort wide of goal from only 12 yards out.

30 seconds later Charlie Rowley played in Andy Matheson for an almost identical opportunity. Matheson tested the keeper but Don MacMillan more than passed that examination.

At the other end Wick's Andrew Macleod hit a fiercesome 25 yard effort that was tipped over the bar by Ally Mackenzie then right on half time they had a fine opportunity to double their lead. Neat build up play between Gary Manson and Jamie Mackenzie lead to the latter heading down to Gary Farquhar but the former St Johnstone midfielder fired his effort wide from 15 yards out.

Steve Paterson made a double change at the break introducing Gordon Connelly and Mark Holmes for the two Mathesons and within 8 minutes the game was level. Steve Mackay's throw in to Gordon Connelly saw the veteran return the ball to Mackay who whipped in a pin point cross that Neil Whyte poked home from 6 yards out.

Just like last week the Can Cans not only levelled but they went on to take the lead and the similarities with last Saturday did not end there. Once again Steven Mackay was the scorer, netting with a tremendous 25 yard free kick that was flighted into the top left hand corner of the net.

It was enough to seal yet another comeback win for Forres who have opened up a gap at the top of the table thanks to results elsewhere.
