Our collie pup has started to refuse his food and is desperate to get at the cat's food. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to deal with this?:confused

How old is your puppy? We wean our collie pups on boiled rice and then mixed in raw eggs and gradually introduced complete dog meal from Geddes to it. They all loved it and what a shine would be on their coats. Hope this helps

The pup is about 10 weeks old. I was told she was getting the same as food as her parents. We just put her on Pedigree Chum puppy food. She ate it for six or seven days but she just refuses to eat it now and want the cat's whiskas.

i have raised many cocker puppies on pedigree ..absolutely super food for them.the original puppy food is the only one i could not give them...too rich.

their owners continued on this until puppies reached 9/10 months then chose their own preference.
i personally feed my dogs chappie/butchers.very healthy combination.i am not a fan of dried food for dogs ..it is hardly what they ate when wild!!
also trying to train a puppy on dried food is very hard as they need to drink so much and i never approve of puppies being fed dry food.

i know many of u feed the barf diet ..i know this is wonderful ,but i am not brave enough to do so.bones worry me as i nearly lost a cocker over 20 years ago to a bone.it was raw too.

i do wonder what u have heard about pedigree being not good???
it is the most pop. food in uk.i even saw it in a shop in a tiny village near to the chinese border last year ,while in hong kong.i was stunned.

it is also well known that puppies do try it on with their owners..so i would put the dish into cage with puppy.leave for 10 mins. if not eaten ,let puppy out ,remove food.cover and put in fridge ..and at next feed do same.eventually puppy will be very hungry and eat.
i have done this for many years now.
u must change the food first offered after 3 goes.
i would not let him near cat food.it would be best to keep dog/cat seperate at feeding time.

just my opinion.
good luck

my dogs bounce with health..even my basset ,who is a larger breed than cockers.she gets more in quantity ,of course..healthy as a flea..her breeders think she has done so well with me.she is my first basset.

hey i have to disagree with pedigree puppy packs as we applied for one and received nothing at all from them, i called and still havent received anything. i emailed burns and received a reply an hour later, next day received free samples, books and money off vouchers,we get burns food from the vet we buy in bulk and it works out alot cheaper, have been trying to upload new photos but dont know how to, its not working

hi ash ..well i am sorry to hear that.most unusual.

however the puppy packs i was talking about are the ones that breeders receive to give to new puppy owners when they pick up their puppy.perhaps ur breeder did not feed pedigrtee.

but other[most ] food producers do give out puppy packs to their breeders.
also did u get a puppy pack from the vet???they get free puppy packs too ..for new puppy owners.not too late to ask.
i would get back to pedigree and dask for a puppy pack again..i mean it was what u were using???yes??

i think alfie looked super.is is he an orange roan or a gold/red??

hope we do see another pic of him.keep trying...

Hi there, I see this as a bit of 'Grass is greener syndrome' !! If your puppy can't get to / smell / see the cat's food then he / she won't want it. Try feeding the animals separately, and try not to leave food down for them to pick at all day. You might like to try a drop of warm water on the pups food, I'm sure if you persist with a strict feed pattern your pup will soon start to eat again. As long as your pup is drinking and not unwell a dog generally eats when hungry. Hope this helps.

English Cocker Spaniels may be many coat colors. They may be parti-colored, with patches of black, liver, red, orange, or gold against a white or roan background. ("Roan" is when the white background is lightly to heavily speckled or mixed with hairs of a color listed above. Roan colors are common in English Cockers, while relatively rare in other spaniels.) English Cockers may be solid colors of black, red, liver, and golden; or any of the above colors accompanied by tan points on the eyebrows, muzzle, throat, rump, and feet.

binbob, I think that you will find that there is such a breed a golden,

Or,

http://www.champdogs.co.uk/html/breeds/cocker-spaniel.htm

Cocker Spaniels come in seventeen colours, the solid colours: Black, Red, Golden, Black & Tan, Liver and Liver & Tan. In parti colours there are: Black & White, Black, White & Tan, Tri-Coloured, Blue Roan, Blue Roan & Tan, Liver Roan, Liver & White, Liver, White & Tan, Orange Roan, Orange & White and Lemon Roan.

Would you like me to go on !!!!

graemer..as a breeder of cockers for more than 25 years..there is no such thing a s a GOLD ROAN.

yes u could go on..but u would be wasting ur time.u will not find gold roan in the cocker colours.

yes u do get the gold colour ..which correctly is orange roan.many inexperienced people have no idea of the proper colours.
yes there are many colours for cockers.....and yes gold/golde/red are a proper title colour.
but orange roan is the orange[not described as gold] running throught the white/cream coat/
gol/red/golden are SOLID colours..the roans are parti colours.........i have an orange roan...i have had an orange and white and i have had GOLDEN [SOLID COLOUR] COCKER TOO AS WELL AS LIVER ROANS,BLUE ROANS,BLUE ROAN/TAN,BLACK/WHITE..i could go on.but never have i reg. a puppy as gold roan.the kennel club would should reject that.

if u are a cocker owner /breeder..then u should know better.
i agree and never disputed there was a gold/golden/red cocker colour.
solid cockers are allowed to have a bit of white on their chest..but they remain as solid.
i have a website..u can compare lucy to saffi
saffi is a very true orange roan ...lucy is a very true gold .
the site is www.rosair.co.uk (http://www.rosair.co.uk)

no wording there that says GOLD ROAN....u have misunderstood the title gold...which means solid gold/golden/red.please
get ur facts right..if u were to call any experienced cocker breeder..i mean a show breeder...they would have a laugh at u asking for a gold roan...it happens all the time.they would know that u meant[probably] orange roan.
it is inexperienced people with out passion to understand and research the breed that have not a clue.
i have had folk ask for a grey cocker ...........no such thing..but i knew they meant blue roan.
i no longer breed by the way.i was a very selective breeder ,breeding once a year......people on my waiting list for over 2 years as they wanted a puppy from me.

we received alfie from a home breeder, his documents say golden roan and thats his KC details and the vet has confirmed this

binbob
13-Sep-07, 16:39
well ash ..as i said i think/know that is wrong title..and vets do not have clue about these things.

i know alfie looks like a gold and white dog to u..but he is orange roian..a truly lovely orange roan.

at the end of the day........it does not matter to u .........u love alfie probably even if he was puprle!!!]and that is what matters.

however if u were to enter him in shows[i do not mean pet shows] there would not be a categoery for gold roan.

i would love a pic of him if u can manage it.
it is just a point of principle that he has been given the wrong colour title.
u get gold cockers...u get particolour roan cockers ,but not gold roan.

however,enough said..just give him a hug.
