Wick get home tie against Vale in Scottish Cup

Published: 31 August, 2007

WICK Academy have been handed a home draw against fellow Highland League side Deveronvale in the first round of the Scottish Cup.

Yesterday's all-in draw – the first since the major revamp of the early stages of the national tournament – was made at the home of Linlithgow Rose and featured clubs from the Junior ranks and the East and South of Scotland leagues as well as the HFL.
Academy face a tough task against Vale, who won 5-1 when the sides met on league business at Princess Royal Park earlier this month. But the Wickers will be hoping that home advantage can help them overturn that result in the cup clash scheduled for Saturday, September 29.
It is one of four all-HFL ties in the first round. The others include Brora Rangers' home game against Cove.
Golspie Sutherland of the North Caledonian League have been given a home tie against Preston Athletic from East Lothian. Fort William have a daunting assignment at home to Spartans, while Forres Mechanics make the long trip to Girvan. Buckie Thistle and Clach meet city opposition with ties against Glasgow University and Edinburgh City respectively.
Third division sides will begin their campaign in the second round on Saturday, October 27, along with the East of Scotland League champions Annan Athletic, South of Scotland title winners Threave Rovers and the top two in last season's Highland League, Keith and Inverurie Locos.
The first-round draw, featuring 35 clubs (one bye), is as follows: Brora Rangers v Cove Rangers; Golspie Sutherland v Preston Athletic; Coldstream v Dalbeattie Star; Glasgow University v Buckie Thistle; Wigtown and Bladnoch v Burntisland Shipyard; Civil Service Strollers v Selkirk; Fort William v Spartans; Newton Stewart v Linlithgow Rose; Vale of Leithen v Gala Fairydean; Wick Academy v Deveronvale; Culter v Hawick Royal Albert; Rothes v Nairn County; St Cuthbert Wanderers v Pollok; Fraserburgh v Huntly; Girvan v Forres Mechanics; Lossiemouth v Whitehill Welfare; Clachnacuddin v Edinburgh City; bye – Edinburgh University.
