Who can remember the fun on CB Radio's? Whatever happened to them? used to love it, there was nothing better than sitting in on a cold winter night getting the crack with everyone. What a laugh it used to be, would be great if everyone unpacked their CB's from the loft and it started up again. I blame new technology like the internet and mobile phones for killing CB. So come on lets start it up again .Calling everyone who has a cb radio, get them up and running again. Was thinking about setting a date for everyone to switch on again and take it from there. What does everyone think?

most trucks have them in. its great for letting each other know the road conditions. you actually need a license for them now.

You used to need a license years ago, remember they were £15 but have since heard that has been scrapped. Yes lorry drivers still have them and i remember when the atmoshpherics were right you used to pick people up from abroad

CB radios grew up into mobile phone's, I guess. At least you can have hands' free with a mobile. ;)

i just looked on a website and its still £15. i doubt many people pay it though. in fact it was only a few years ago at truckfest i heard you needed a license as there was people going round checking drivers if they had licenses for their cb's.

Used to be great fun. Ahh........nostalgia. Up till the early hours yapping away, listening in to conversations and trying to guess who the folk were, not forgetting all the wind-ups that went on. Mind one time a certain gentleman was having trouble with his handset and someone told him to spray it with WD40 and that was the last we heard of him for a while as it/he had knackered it completely! [lol] It was harmless fun when the craze started. But, when it all quitened down I got rid of the two sets that we had. Can't see it making a come-back now as mobiles have completely taken over.

beats me why the mobile beat the cb. you got to pay for the moblie call while the cb call is free, guess it just went out of fashon.

Ofcom actually de-regulated the CB license rules on 8th December 2006, so no, you no longer need a license at all....

Ah, memories, me & ex-hubby on a midnight drive trying to get No1 baby to sleep in the car... heading for 'an eyeball' at some greasy spoon cafe off the motorway somewhere in Kent!!

Makes me sound like a real oldie... oh, wait, I am!!

10-4 good buddy, I hear you strength 5, they were good days, even my house bound father had a chicken box at home, and he loved the CB and his list of handles that were good buddies.
Alas who needs CB these days, when you have Skype, it is electronic CB, and most Truckers have mobile phones, I still see a few trucks with big shiny twigs on the roof, so some must still have them. I miss that era too

I found two CB's in my attic last week, I used to use them when i stayed in Inverness, Apache was my handle, that brings back so many memories.

What great fun the cb was. I still have my home base and the car one. in fact i was thinking of putting the one back in the car as i beleive Stevens lorries still use them. Used to chat to them and so many others on the road to Inverness, time soon passed and often stopped for an "eyeball". Met some lovely people.
Used to enjoy listening, and talking, on the cb at night, the crack was good and there was always someone on there, great company. it was really good for old folk for company, and a lot used it with their families, rather than pay for phone calls.
It would be great if we all went back on.Ten Ten for now!!!

If you are the same coppertop as was on CB when I was on many years ago then I think I know who you are, but not 100% sure. When I was on I was Dr Pepper and my 20 was the Concrete Jungle. My memory is so bad now I don't remember half the handles I used to talk to. I do remember spending nights listening to Denny and Isla Simpson who were across the way fro me, what a laugh that was. I seem to remember a Mighty Mouse or Dangermouse??

We used to have a Midland 3000 set up in a wardrobe :P

Sounds familiar, Jeemag, I just can't think who they were though. I was but a mere whippersnapper when cb's were on the go, but I too had a handle, and used to chat on it to my grandparents at the other side of town :D.

I remember my parents on the CB's they used to be on it for hours, then my brothers got on them, My mums handle was Swapshop, my dads was Hiker, I still see some of their mates and first thing that pops into my head was their handles, one is Papermate and the other was Weilder, my oldest bros was Shepard. You guys that still have them should get them setup again, could be interesting to hear if they are still used not just by truckers.

[It was harmless fun when the craze started.
No it wasn't. The old illegal AM ones used to interfere with other bands. I once watched an R/C plane a guy had spent all winter building fly off into the side of a building because some CB user jammed the control signals.

I was meaning that in general IT WAS HARMLESS FUN. Better young folks doing that than a lot of what goes on today!;)
Lots of people moaned about the so called "illeagals" and they were blamed for a lot of things that they may or may not have been responsible for ~ taxi firms did used to get annoyed (to put it mildly) when you dared to use "their channel". But that's life and you can't keep everyone happy all of the time.
