Hopefully there'll be one or two of Northern Constabulary's finest at the ferry terminals, Friday, if they don't lift 'em before that.

I just can't believe why someone would do such a thing [disgust]. They should name and shame the eejit.

I'm sure the locals and the polis will be lining up at the ferry in anticipation come Friday .

The grammar police are never far away.

Is this school or a message board?

I don't think they should have published a picture of the vandalism, that is exactly the kind of attention they thrive on.

;)

Hehe, if truth be told it's a fair approximation of neither. :D

I believe you're right. They should have published a picture of his name instead.

I can't see there being a flash-mob (you can just see it - pitchforks, burning torches and buxom serving-wenches...or is this not a Hammer House Of Horror production?) waiting at the ferry terminal for them tomorrow though.

Surely the parents will have handed the culprit in by then?

just terrible !!! one of our most visited and important sites
hope they catch them at the ferry on Friday
will be watching the local news to see if its reported

This is indeed terrible and I hope they get their just deserves. I am sure the paint will be removed quite easily and no permanent harm done.

Graffitti on Orcadian monuments is nothing new though, just look around the Ring of Brogar, it is covered in messages like "MORAG LOVES GEORGE 1723 AD." etc and the famous runes of Maes Howe, they were done as destructive graffiti.

It is permanent marker pen and will require specialist removal not to damage the stone. The vandals appear to be from south and camping overnight near the site.

Moron.
They are all around us, and worse still - mobile now.
Make them all swim home - no joke.

Nudge, nudge, "Want an Idiot? Fell off a ferry!" [evil]
The only problem with publishing the pictures is that dozens of other empty-heads will see it and decide it's about their level of intelligence also. I am amazed that they managed words with more than four letters.

I'm just wondering if this is related to other incidences of notable landmarks being defaced? There is a mural in a sea cave that got done last year and others, vandal tourism may be a new buzz word for it.

It was the "histrionic site" that got me giggling - pretty much describes this web site some days!

Good thing you didn't quote the Maeshowe runes Rheghead, some of them are a bit mucky!

name & shame the numpty. If possible have him help restore the damage he's done , under supervision of course. Also stump up some hard cash too. If not , I'm sure there's a chain gang with a "missing link" waiting just for him. [mad]

I was horrified to see that wanton graffiti damage done to some of the stones at Scara Brae. The current suspect is a Liverpudlian called Brian Finlay who is travelling fairly rough with a backpack. He talks a lot about Celts and should be easily identifiable. Perhaps all orgers could keep their eyes and ears open, and inform the police if they have any sightings of him. It would be good if this idiot was caught and punished.

Ricco, that's just terrible. Was it on national news? I formed a special attachment to that place years ago on my first visit to Orkney. Have a few pics on here in the photo board I think. Incidents like this are just inexcusable. Weirdos are everywhere, spoiling things for the rest of us.

James.

Get him where it really hurts, in his wallet. It'll probably cost a fortune to repair the damage.

Perhaps if he had to pay for it and do the work to remove it, under supervision of course, he might think twice next time.

Or there again, maybe not. Some people are beyond hope.

For some-one to mindlessly vandalise these stones shows exactly how childish and immature he must be hopefully the police will find him and then let him pay for the work required to rectify his moment of stupidity!
