We managed to spend an hour on Swona. The last family left the island in 1974. I like these photos because of the solid grey/blue/green colours.

The great thing to see is no evidence of any vandalism. The houses still have their glass intact.

These photos were taken with a sony Cybershot point and shoot.

I don't think I would like to spend a dark night on the island - very spooky even in daylight.

I tried to get a photograph that showed the dingeyness of the inside of the house using the dirty window to give it that sort of misty look. I'm not sure if the photo conveys the same feeling as actually being there. Very spooky, and I know spooky.... Oh, no. I've got goose bumps. I've got the horrible feeling that our own ghost is looking over my shoulder whilst I am writing this. I am not going to go upstairs in the dark for a while:eek:

Psyberyeti,
I love the strange sense of scale!! The first two images look like a model of a house for some reason!! It must be the lack of gutters etc (detail) I assume it was all destroyed or blown away by the weather - excellent.

Are there still feral cattle on the island?

Yes there are. We were told to keep out of their way. Apparantly they are not scared of people as there are so few visitors. I understand it is one of the very few true ferral herds. I can't remember if that was in the UK or the world, and it is self sustaining. I am trying to remember what I was told two months ago [and I can't remember what I had for tea last night].

You should see the grass they have to feed on - it is beautiful and thick and a deep green. My photos don't do the colour justice.

Hello DeeMac - yes, it is really strange. The houses just look so unreal against the grass and the sky. It was mid afternoon as well and the shadows are fairly short helping the odd effect. I am hoping that we can go back next year. We only stayed for a very short time but it was well worth it.

Another leap forward in use of the site for me - I've gust reelised that theer is a speel chucker on this massage page. I can't spull fur tofie, but shud bee ok naw.
