What is this game if, full of grief,
We have to time for light relief?

No time to pause and watch a flight
Of geese across the fading light.

Or miss a drive by half a yard,
And say, 'This course is much too hard!'

Or muff a two-foot putt, or less,
And punch the air, and shout out 'Yes!'

No time to pull the captain's leg,
And throw the odd symbolic egg.

Or squeeze the lady captain's thigh,
And murmur 'Well it's worth a try....'

Or wear a bog-roll tie to lunch
And call the steward 'Honeybunch'

And spout a load of drunken blah
And dance the cancan on the bar,

And when invited to resign,
Say 'Good idea! Next round is mine!'

Yet, what's the point of light relief,
If all it brings is pain and grief?
