Evening Ash,

I'm not going to lie to you it's not pleasant but neither is frozen shoulder, as you know.:(

It is better to have it treated though as shoulder problems can go on and on & lead to all sorts of other problems.

You've had a baby,...how bad can it be!;)

It can be a little uncomfortable but if done right it isn't too bad, the physo in Thurso (Kevin I think) really good.

Oh Ash, you have my sympathy. I have a frozen shoulder just now (my third) and the pain during the freezing time is excruciating. If you get the cortisone injections early enough they can work but not every time. Don’t worry about them though, they are not that bad – I’ve had many.

I do hope you get relief soon – take all the help you can get.

Ash,

I too have had one. Mine was caused by calcification which in turn came because I'd originally dislocated shoulder and it never went back into place correctly. This meant 'rubbing and grating' and, over a period, extra calcium built up like a lump. I had cortisone injections, a fair amount of deep heat treatment, and that did make the difference. The jabs weren't fun, but no worse than epidurals which I now have for spinal arthritis. You I suspect are a good number of years younger than I so 'go for it now', get the treatment while you can and while it can do some good. Avoid leaving things till its too late. Just 'bite the bullet'.

Good Luck

James.

Not wanting to put a dampner on your thread ....BUT, I had a frozen shoulder 20 odd yr ago. I had all the treatment going at the time and it worked up to a point. I still cant lift my arm above shoulder without pain but its better than not baing able to lift your arm up at all. Hope all goes well for you and treatment works.

don't know if it is any help (or even if there are any practitioners in Thurso) but I would suggest seeing a sports physio - they are specialised in getting people back into their sporting fitness. I had a frozen lower back some years ago and the doc kept giving me pain killers. Eventually I decided to seek referral to a sports physio and they had me sorted in seven sessions. No injections, very little pain - and mostly enormous relief. That and some exercise advice have meant that the problem has never returned.

Good luck - hope someone can give you permanent relief from the pain. :D

Both myself , my wife, and our daughter have had this condition. Wife's cleared up after ultrasound and physio whereas daughters and mine just went away on it's own, given time.
Not pleasant.

Are there any osteopaths in your area? I have found their treatment to be excellent and non intrusive. An osteopath is different to both chiropractic and physio, as they put the body back into neutral and allow it to realign. And with my shoulder (don't know if I have what you folk are calling frozen shoulder, but sounds similar) I have had terrific results.
All the best regardless,
Lola

Ash, I had a cortisone injection in my wrist a couple of years ago, I didn't find the pain bad at all, I never even realised that he had done it! I had it done at the Dunbar Hospital with the physio chap up there (I forget his name but he is a new zealander - I think) and he was excellent!

I had a similar condition in the early eighties - 'tendonitis' which meant upward movement of the arm above chest height was very painful.
Two cortisone jabs - the maximum allowed I understand - cleared it up a treat. I was doin much manual labour at the time shouldering bags of mop heads, hundreds of 'em onto the back of a wogan. I have had a few very silly jobs in my time.
p.s. I left the typo in - I'm sure Terry wouldnee mind !

I've had it for 4 years, I thought it was frozen shoulder, had all the treatments from Chiropractor, osteopaths, physio. now the doc recon's its inflamed tendons, and recommends an injection. I've booked one in about 2 weeks, but working outside yesterday brushing out the cobwebs on the cabin it seemed to of gone, I must of oiled the joints so I'm thinking of joining the Gym and cancelling the injection. I injured my shoulder about eighteen months ago, and struggled along for ages until eventually it got so bad I went to the Doc. She suggested a cortisone injection but I asked to see the Physio first. That went OK, but it wasn't really making all that much progress until she started Acupuncture. Wow! It was amazing - I noticed a difference straightaway, not a huge amount, but gradually as the sessions went on it got better and better. I think I had ten sessions altogether and now the shoulder is almost as good as new. I would certainly recommend acupuncture as a treatment.

I've also had acupuncture treatment for my arthritis and I found it to be a great help. Worth thinking about.

I must admit that the couple of times I've had back problems I've made a beeline to the chiropractor who sorted me out within 20 minutes or so. It might be £30 a time but worth every penny.

See if you can find a Cranio-sacral therapist, they can do wonders, and, totally painlessly
