Have a couple of kids staying with us over the school holidays. They are wanting to play chess but can't remember all the school rules. We have tried playing with them with the normal rules but they say they are totally different

Please can anyone help sort out the confusion, both kids are pre high school

Thanks in advance for any help

School rules???? Never heard of them. I've checked the Net but can't find any mention of them either. Why not just teach them the right rules!!!

They play chess in the after school group, teaching them the right rules is only going to confuse them even more, we are trying to find out the rules they play by, so we can play by their rules. Aparently it involves all the pieces being given points and moves being simplified.

Dono if this is wat ur talkin about but.

All the pawns go on the second row away from the edge of the board and on the first row, starting from the left as follows:- rook, knight, bishop, queen, king, bishop, knight and rook.

Pawns can only move forwards 1 square at a time or dioganaly when capturing.
rooks (castle) can move vertically or horizontally as many squares.
knights can only move in 'L' shapes
Bishop can move diagonally as many squares.
Queen can move in any direction any number of squares.
King can only move 1 square at a time.

Hope this helps
