Lovely pic, CrissX. I bought a nut feeder and some nuts today to see if I can't attract some to by garden, since everyone else (barr Liz) seems to be seeing them .

Maybe they ARE in my garden, just disguised as Baby Greenfinches - I had five (count 'em) wallowing in the window feeder this evening, what a racket [lol]! But they're sooo adorable, too...

Great shot. I have never seen one of those -- they look quite different from the finches here.

We had goldfinches quite regularly earlier in the year, once we put the proper sort of seed in the correct feeder (niger seed, small holed feeder) but they had been absent for the last few weeks. Then at the weekend they appeared again, a pair and three fledged youngsters. It seems very late in the year for a brood especially since its been so wet. Does anyone know if it common for goldfinches (or any other birds) to produce a brood so late in the season.

One parent and a youngster were there this evening.

It seemed that the parent was trying to teach the youngster how to use the feeder, but the best it could manage was to scrabble around in the 'drip' tray.

Bar the occasional visit there have been none in the garden for a few weeks then today at least 8 turn up together and boy were they hungry. I suppose they needed to top up after a cold damp night. Normally they are quite peaceful feeders but today they were squabbling like mad at each other.

Numerous goldfinch around just now, 16 one day, also the siskins have arrived, at last. Was longing to see them again, and also have a Coaltit. Spend more time watching them than doing housework.

Not seen a single gold finch here in months despite growing all their favourite seed plants in the garden.
Great pictures from you all, they are one of my favourite birds.

Around this time last year we regularly had a dozen fighting on our feeders, this year we have only had one. Where are the bonny wee critters hiding??
