Bonnie Lybster Bay
by Marjorie S. Curtis c.1964

If ye iver go across e’ Ord o’ Kaitness
Then mebe at ‘e op’nan o’ yer day
Ye’ll sit up in yer bed an’ see ‘e glory
O’ sunrise over bonnie Lybster Bay.
Chust as I did on a fine September moarneen’
When ‘e watter gleamed lek silver all ‘e way
An’ sky o’ blue, an’ reid, an’ flame, an’ yellow
Made a canopy ower bonnie Lybster Bay.

For ‘e breezes blowan’ ower ‘e Ord o’ Kaitnesss
Ur’ scented by ‘e heather an’ ‘e foam
An ‘e sign post on ‘e brae that bids ye welcome
Reminds ye that yer gettan’ nearer hom’
Til ‘e fowk who tenant yer heart’s greenest coarner
An’ who for unbounded kindness steal ‘e show
An’ till hear agen in hammal Kaitness accents
‘At language ‘at ‘e ithers divna know.

‘E sooth folk came an’ tried til teich hez their way
An’ laughed at hez becaase o’ what we are
Bit they micht as weel try chumpan’ ower ‘e lichthoose
Or go ‘sailin’ in ‘e harbour in a car.
An if there’s goan til be a life Hereaifter
An’ somehow I am sure it’ll be ‘at way
I will ask my God til let me make my Heaven
Somewhere in sicht o’ bonnie Lybster Bay.

... Misty-eyed reading this. I miss Lybster so much.
