if you pop in to the job centre they will give you (free) a book telling you step by step how to do this and the sort of things to write and how to set it out.

Firstly you need to include your name, address, phone number, date of birth, email address etc..

Then include details of your education, qualifications, work history, hobbies and finally give details of a couple of referees.

Surf the web for some ideas on layout as there are quite a lot to choose from.

If you are applying for jobs in the local area you should research the following:-

Nepotism, Cliques, Freemasonry and finally "The Art of Spotting a Job Vacancy that is already filled"

Go easy on the hobbies bit. There's nothing worse than reading a pile of CVs that say:

"I am a well rounded person and have lots of interests outside work. I am enthusiastically doing my Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award and I only have the expedition to do to complete it. I like most types of music and play in a band with some of my mates. We have had gigs in local pubs and we write and play some of our own music. In my spare time I like socialising with friends of mine and going to pubs and clubs."

You are applying for a job, not describing the habits of most of the younger generation! Like, saying you go to the pub is gonna get you a job.

Oh, and don't write in txt! Unless you are under 12.

The s1jobs.com advice hits the spot. But keep the cover letter as short as poss. I hardly ever read the things. The CV is the business.

Nepotism is your best bet if it's in Caithness. Not sure I ever got a job there any other way.

Maybe you should explain that because the norm person will be too honest and naieve to understand. Such a shame really. [mad]
