Dressed in robes of royal blue,
And mortarboards of matching hue,
The students entered in procession,
They'd studied hard, and learnt their lessons.

Now gathered in the auditorium,
With principal's welcome at the podium,
The commencement ceremony did begin,
Followed by salutatorian.

Parents and family watched intent
Their sons' and daughters' main event,
Their names were called out one by one,
And each approached the podium.

Presented with their diploma from school,
They'd learned that education is the tool,
To make their way out in the world,
And its secrets yet unfurled.

This mother here was filled with pride,
And with my husband by my side,
We watched our younger son's graduation,
Today was such a time of elation!

Congratulations to the young Sporran on attaining a big step in what will no doubt be an illustrious career, and to you on producing and nurturing an upstanding and valuable member of whatever community he'll live in. Well done!
(And a fine set of lines as well!)

That was wonderful ! What a treasure to have a poem of the big event.

It's lovely to have those Stepping Stones in life - I remember the Former Pupils Dance in Wick many years ago, for those who had just left. I was there with my new frock and borrowed shoes and mum's thick Lisle stockings ! Never mind - my partner and I won the Military Twostep and the man from the Groat took our picture. I was so delighted, but then my partner announced that his grandfather had just died and he was not supposed to be at the dance ! So our picture never got in the Groat !!

Happy Days,
