It's been brought to my attention that in Malta wild migratory birds are being shot indiscriminately, for 'fun'! Also small wild birds are being caught and put in tiny cages!!! [mad]

Please go to http//protectiondesoiseaux/view/637/72/ for more info and to sign an online petition.

Thanks!

Indeed... however, it's also worth noting the following Scottish hunting seasons:

Blackgame: 20th August - 10th December
Capercaillie: 1st October - 31st January
Grouse: 12th August - 10th December
Partridge: 1st September - 1st February
Pheasant: 1st October - 1st February
Ptarmigan: 12th August - 10th December
Common Snipe: 12th August - 31st January
Woodcock: 1st September - 31st January
Wild Geese and Duck: 1st September - 31st January/20th February
Golden Plover: 1st September - 31st January

That some people take pleasure in shooting animals and call it sport has always baffled me.

This is not new unfortunately. Many years ago I first heard of the illegal shooting towers of Italy and they are apparently still right across southern Italy. I had quick look and found this site

Birds migrating from Africa are in great danger of being shot indiscriminately in the south of Europe. I have not looked into this for along time but once anything that moved was shot for sport.

Oops - sorry Margaret!

Thanks for coming to the rescue JJC!

It's bad enough birds being shot indiscrimately but the thought of a wild bird being caught and forced to live in a tiny cage is just unbearable. :~(

Thanks, JJC, I should have taken a closer look and figured that one out. Truly heartbreaking -- how can anyone kill such beautiful birds? Liz, I agree, it would be kinder to shoot them that to keep them in a cage.
