A while back there was a thread about a picture showing a contrail in the sky. Yesterday's picture of the day on space.com showed an even more spectacular one, from a Russian rocket launch.

I've seen a few like this as Vandenberg Air Force BAse in California is to the west of where I live. One evening driving home we even saw the trail appear as the rocket went up.
