One of the first things i noticed after moving to Wick last year was the number of independent little shops scattered around the streets. I had never seen this before as back home in Edinburgh everywhere seemed to have one main shopping street. I have also noticed by the markings on the buildings here that a lot of the residential houses had once been a small shop and had been converted. I would be interested to know what little shops used to be where, who owned them and what they are now. Can anyone also tell me why a lot of the houses in Pulteneytown have been reduced in size ie: used to be two storey and are now one. Also why have a lot of the houses on gable ends dissappeared altogether.
