This may seem a stupid question, but haven’t seen the answer to this anywhere.

Can the defibrillator be taken to the person requiring help (say, a mile away) or does the person require to be transported to the defibrillator?

Taken to the person and all the instructions are in the machine and are usually spoken to ensure you are following correct procedure. Replace to position after use and advise the group usually you have used the pads - to enable them to replace for next use.

Do not move the victim. When you call the ambulance service and the call handler ascertains that the emergency is a cardiac arrest they will direct you to the nearest defibrillator as long as it is within 150m radius of the incident and of course if it is registered with them.
