There is an updated version 7 of AVG - see www.grisoft.com

Also I would recommend getting adware and spyware checkers such as Adaware Personal SE - from www.lavasoft.de (Click on download from The Resources menu on the left hand side) and Spybot from - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

For spyware I would recommend Spy Sweeper. Our computer manager bought it for our group, and it has worked really well on making my computer run faster with a total elimination of hangups. I was already using Ad-aware and Spybot (which are free). I don't know what SpySweeper costs minds you (we get a cheap deal on it because we're educational).

We also use Sophos antivirus but I preferred Macafee (the campus central software group made us change).

I would also recommend "Spysweeper" from Webroot. I wouldn't stop there, though - Ebay is a good source of Norton Internet Security (includes firewall).

I us ad-aware personal. It's free, and although I have norton, it found a lot of bugs norton had let in!

Under no circumstances use Norton. It is absolute dross. Slows p.c. right down and all the configs are a pain in the neck aswell.
AVG 7 is excellent, Zone alarm firewall is excellent, Adaware is excellent and Webroot windows washer are excellent too.

Just now i'm using the free version of AVG Anti Virus and Sygate Personal firewall. I'm also using the IE pop up blocker that came in XP SP2 and the beta version of Microsoft's Spyware scanner.

i don't have a pop up blocker, but i highly recommend you switch your web browser to Firefox as it has that built in, i never get pop ups. its also a lot better than Internet Explorer if you ask me

for anti virus i use Norton.... Kaspersky also comes recommended
