Sinclair Bay
by JC

If you ever come across the Ord to Caithness
And surely you will come this way some day,
You will throw away for e'er your other address,
As I did when I first saw Sinclair Bay.

And now my heart beats faster and rejoices
To watch the barefoot boyags at their play
Or to hear once more the lilting Poltney voices,
And see again the Scorries o'er Wick Bay.

For we do not want to cross the sea to Ireland,
From England we fain would stay away,
And since they wont remember us in London,
The in our own dear Caithness let us stay.

And if there's no new industries hereafter,
And maybe - at this moment - no M.P.
We'll give thanks to God for then 'twill be like heaven
Where Old Wick water ripples to the sea.

But if some day I cross the Ord from Caithness,
And in some distant city there must dwell,
I will treasure in my heart, and keep it fragrant,
The mem'ry of a people I love well.
