Can't put this in the sports because its for local sports, just wanted to give congrats to a fellow Scot who had a great race yesterday in Indianapolis. Dario became the first Scotsman to win the famous Indy 500 race since Jim Clark in 1965. It took 42 years but we did it again. And it was well worth waiting to see his wife Ashley Judd in her soakin wet summer dress and bare feet running across the track to kiss him  This takes place at the same track as the US Gran Prix for those who didn't know that.

An Edinburgh born boy who grew up racing with David Coulthard in Karts and in Formula 3000, when Coulthard went to F1, Dario went to CART road racing in the USA and then to Indycar when the leagues combined, he now also races in the 24hr Le Mans series.

Congrats for another Scottish Racing Great!!

Seriously, though, it's wonderful to see a Scotsman win the Indy 500 race again - especially after 42 years!

Wow! Lost track of how he was doing this season.

Well done indeed!

I was rooting for him at Rockingham a few years ago, but would love to have seen him win at Indy......... I was on the edge of my seat when Nigel Mansell almost won it in 92? when he won the Indycar championship on the back of the Grand Prix championship (only person ever to be reigning champion in both formulae)

I just said he was from Edinburgh because thats what it says in his IRL biography.

here is a couple pics I took at the race. The first one is just off turn one, Dario Franchitti (orange and black) made a pass on Helio Castroneves and the second is a view of the short straight between turn one and two.

It was except for the three hour break after the first rain while they dried the track off, luckily I have a friend who lives two streets over from the track so I went back and sank a few more beers before heading back to the track for the finish of the race. I live about 15 minutes from the track, will be going to the Gran Prix also.

That was a very very exciting race, even with the break in the middle. I was beginning to fear Dario would never get a 500 win or a championship. According to the man himself, so was he. He almost retired last year, but now says he has no intention of doing so for years.

Dario has to be one of the favorites to win this year, he has not finished outside the top ten in any race so far and its still early in the season, Dario is more of a road racer, and they have added two extra road courses this season so keep an eye on the standings, I think he may well pull it off this year, you can keep up with him on http://www.indycar.com

I woudl actually like to see David Coulthard make a switch and try it out, think he is wasting his time in F1 now, he would be better off trying something else.
