Latest rumour........in some of the Canadian newspapers and on the BBC.

Scotland is exploring the possibility of joining Canada.........
One journalist stated that the fingerprints of Scotland is all over Canada. They actually did have an enormous impact on Canada. The original Hudson Bay Company was founded by THE MEN of Orkney and the Highlands of Scotland.

They are a wee bitty apart, but so is America and Hawaii....so it is said.
Perhaps thought provoking......

So there were just MEN then and no women?

So there were just MEN then and no women?

I think THE MEN got there first, in these situations.

Is this a 'here we go again moment'?

THe quote about the Men is taken from a book on the subject of the discovery of Canada. Many Nationalities were responsible for the above discovery. But in the late 1600's it was men who volunteered to go to a tremendously challenging landscape. There are hundreds of books written about the discovery of Canada. There were many challenges and hardships to endure for at least 200 years, and many skirmishes with the indigenous people and with others who were laying claim to lands.. It was a tough land with no roads and only the rivers to navigate, but the Orcadians were singled out as being among the toughest.
Yes, women eventually paddled the canoes but many of the original men who landed there took native women for their wives. Interesting the name Flett is very common out in Northern Canada.

Recently on the BBC someone thought that Scotland and Canada would make a good match.... perhaps 'tongue in cheek', but if Scotland is looking ' for a new home' here we are. Unfortunately we are presently ruled by a Liberal Government who are spending monies we don't have, and getting us deeper into debt.
Perhaps some of the Scots would welcome that.
FYI...the books on the discovery of Canada makes for an interesting read.....

It didn't exactly turn out well for native Americans all over the American continent, north and south, when the Europeans came, did it?

I think that one has to look at the big picture. Yes there are some problems on some of the First Nation's/Indian land, but there are many more where there are success stories, where people live normal lives.
The Media want sensationalism and they do that with a few stories about bad conditions e.g. Water and Glue Sniffing....actually it isn't Glue...it is 'Thinners'......that is how much the media cares. As long as the story sells.

There are over 600 First Nations Bands in Canada, the Majority of which live quiet successful lives, and many more in America.
Just North East of Toronto The Mississaugas of the Scugog Island First Nations/Indians are living very productive lives. They have a Casino and all have their own homes, and live in concert with the local people.

Obviously there were problems in the beginning as many Countries wanted a 'piece of the action'....the fur trade, but once it was all settled it stabilized.

On one or two of the Reservations the problems are.......they are given monies by the Gov't., but their Leaders squander it. So The Gov't puts in advisors, and they kick them out. Thus the money is gone and we see the horrible pictures and the kids dying. Sad to say it makes good press!

Actually Canadian Politics are pretty good and steady.
Each Province, which Scotland would be, (hehe) would have their own Gov't and set many of their own Rules. The Criminal Code would cover all the Provinces, but Traffic and Liquor Laws would be the responsibility of the Provinces.....The Scots would luv that!
Actually, it is a very good system. Lots of Autonomy. You mite have to change the side you are driving on! METHINKS.....BETTER than having Brussels as your boss......I see Greece is having another 'bail out' and they say it will keep going until the whole thing sinks.
Come on over.......
