i have the sae camera and lens, great piece of kit, what settings did you use?

i found it best to just try and use the tv and av ones and play with iso and shutter speeds for taking pics of the dogs, fatser the better without getting to grainy.

The quality and clarity of those shots are excellent, are those exactly the way they came out or did you crop them? The only thing I would suggest on them is work on the composition of your shot, if its a close up portrait of the spaniel, get him in the middle of the shot, and the three doggs together also (beautiful shot) if you don't get them right in the middle of your shot and your using a digital, use photoshop to crop and improve the composition of the photo.

PS Buggyracer, that second shot is an absolute belter of an action shot, well done!

I used sports setting as i dont know how to use the manual ones yet . whats the best way to capture an action shot on manual... make it easy to understand as im a slow learner and get confused easily... you may have to draw me a picture!:lol:
I didnt crop them but took loads of shots of them speeding about on the beach.. heres another one of liath..

I was told to focus on the eyes and keep horizon level and avoid having everything centred by a photographer thats why liath is off centre.. do you think it would look better with her in the middle of the pic with the 3 it was just one of a sequence of them belting along the beach I find its hard taking pics in bright sunlight is there anything I can do to make pics better.

go on tv mode, set iso quite high 800, adjust shutter speed to 1/800 or above and adjust the av + or - button depending on the amount of light available, also sett af point selection to single block in the middle.

im far fro an expert but it works for me?

Anyway, 800 ISO makes sense, thats what they use in old skool cameras for fast action shots like motor racing, athletics, horse racing etc, and a shutter speed somewhere around 1000. But you need good light for a fast shutter speed, if the light dim and the shutter speed is fast then the picture may end up under exposed, I guess its good practice to take fast action shots in good light.

PS judging by the last shot you posted I would say your not doing much wrong, the picture looks great, perfect clear freeze frame, and if your using digital you can always adjust the position of the subject using cropping, I'd say your doing a grand job looking at that!

she said in her first post its a 400d canons lateset slr. :)

if its coming out dark adjust the light level.

thanks a lot yes I have to remember to set the white light to daylight when outside also can up the iso and shutter speed but not worked out yet how av works.
just took this outside front door to try out those settings on TV i had it iso 800 and shutter speed 500 ( meant to have it at 800 but forgot to check)daylight setting and af single block in middle .. its not a great pic as i was only trying out settings..

thats what you have to do, just play with the different settings and if its no good delete.
