Loved History but don't remember being taught any local stuff. I was good at English, so-so in Maths and absolutely useless at PE, Art & Music. Could cook a bit too. Geography I was too busy being scared of Maggit Scott to take much in and Science depended on whether Mclure was scaring you or Bill Oliver was telling you jokes.

English was my best..............History next.............but I liked Latin most.........and I have the proud record for taking the longest time ever to run 100 yards in PE! :D

Guess the Latin and 100 yards age me somewhat! :confused

I did Latin too, Oddquine, but it was a bit of a struggle at the time!
My favourites/best were English, French and History....
I loved Art -but I wasn't all that good at it...
Maths, science & PE, cookery and sewing were all pretty dreadful! [evil]

I was good at skiving![lol]

When I wasn't skiving I was probably best at English, Drama and Art...I secretly loved History but was far too cool to admit that to anyone.

Geography I was too busy being scared of Maggit Scott to take much in and Science depended on whether Mclure was scaring you or Bill Oliver was telling you jokes.

We must have been there in the same era. Maggot Scott was a fierce wifie and no mistake, although for some incomprehensible reason she took a shine to me.

Dempster McClure I really didn't like. Bill Oliver was probably my favourite teacher, which was actually a bad thing as he influenced me towards chemistry, when physics was my real calling.

I was also very fond of John Leitch. Despite the dreadful personality, he was a stunningly good maths teacher.

I too studied Latin but only under duress although it did leave me along with French and English a lasting love of languages and their derivations.
Favourites were, Geography,Art and Design. English Literature and any form of sport.

My best subjects were English (writing and literature), music, and drama...followed by art, and languages (I had German and Spanish). I enjoyed history and sciences, and did well in them, too. Didn't mind PE if it was something like trampoline or archery :D, but never saw the point of exercises for the sake of it or running round a track! Hated math...still do.

Once I got to high school it was time for fun so I did not excel at anything. I did love PE though -- I've gone back to Scottish Country Dancing after all these years. Maggot Scott was a tough cookie but Mr. Milne, the Latin teacher used to scare me -- I can still picture him standing up in front of the class swaying back and forth. I do regret not studying more but yet I don't know what I would have done differently in life.

I specialised in the cross-country run. Out of the playing-field gates, down the track until out of sight, duck into a nearby derelict out-building, out with the fags and wait until the nutters started to come back.
You had to wait until quite a few had passed before you run back in with the stragglers having splashed in muddy puddles and done just enough to get sweaty and out of breath.

If you got back with the front runners you were likely to be noticed and that would never do!
Yes, school was excellent for my education, it gave me a good start in life!

Best would have been English and Mathematics and worst was the sewing class. My handicrafts were so bad I was sent to do technical drawing as a punishment.....but I loved it and have put it to good use since in an amateur way. Just for the record I never did come to terms with sewing if my skirt was too long I bought higher heels! But I taught myself to knit in later life and can turn out arans and lace with the best of them now.

Loved Art and English but had to give up my Art Higher as I was spending too much time in the department
Food @Nutrition was another favourite which eventually became my occupation of sorts.Had to pass Chemistry to do a Dieteticts degree but failed twice so end up doing a Catering @institutional HND.Still wonder if it was the teacher as I was doing fine till we got a "strange" teacher.
You remember the kind, you'd walk into the class and would be just left to get on with it.Questions were not directly answered:confused

My best subject were Art and Biology, although I like the other sciences too and I really liked sewing, did it for 4 years. Me and my best mate sat for 4 years making a massive patchwork quilt between us. We just blethered and stitched and at the end of it all we couldn't decide who would take it home so the head hung it in the hall!

My best subjects were maths, biology, geology, chemistry and physics. I never did much work for them at school though because I was studying them at home too much. At 11 years old, I was already a keen home geologist and fossil collector. I had dissected a few road kills and studied pondlife biology while I was being taught elementary stuff, like cell structure in school. Chemistry and physics were also elementary and were complementary to my biology and geology first loves.

Funnily, I got Ds and Cs for all my subjects because the teachers placed too much emphasis on 'effort' and homework assessment. I rarely did my homework or took part in Q&A sessions so I knew I was giving a false impression to my teachers. However, I knew that GCEs in the good old days were a pass or bust system and I took full advantage. I passed all my sciences and maths with As.

It is a shame that kids now have to do assessed course work, I think they should be able to choose which system suits them best. I guess the boys would do well in a final exam system rather than an assessed coursework one?

I enjoyed history, but failed the Higher prelim. Teacher said I shouldn't bother to sit the Higher. Well, I did and I passed and now have a degree in the subject. Gives great satisfaction even after all these years.

My best subjects were English, Art, History, French and History of Art. I only took Latin for a year, but don't regret taking it. Maths was definitely not my forte, though I had no problem with Arithmetic. I think my problem was that I found Maths rather boring, and all those quadratic equations were enough to make me go cross-eyed! I was no whizz at Physics and Chemistry either, but I did fare very well in Astronomy, in first year Science.

I learned how to exploit... So all subjects were my best ones. Latin? Maths? Science? History? Yawns. Easy peasy. People management is the skill that counts.
