Thought I would start a thread featuring amusing Scottish words. Here is one of my favourites, the source of the definition being:

Wally pronounced wo-lee

A wally is in fact someone who is very intelligent in some areas but very stupid (alomost unbelievably) in others

Have you noticed, most of the words are following a 'theme' !!

And sticking with that theme, I always had a soft spot for trosk. Lovely word, even if I've been called it more than once.

I read an article once that said it was originally a word for a daft female, but as a teenage male in the 70s it was practically my middle name.

I've certainly been 'crabbit' recently! Too much reading of a certain thread and letting it get to me. I'm in remission now!

A little off the original thread topic but never mind.
'Herbivore': an animal that only eats plants.
'Herbibore': A person who insists, despite all scientific and other evidence to the contrary, that human beings are herbivores.
Oh, and I also came across this just now on the internet and I quote:
'Narcissitic know it all' : A person with that 'always have to be right' personality flaw. The Science Newsgroups seem to attract them. One term from psychology which describes their behaviour is Heavily Defended, meaning that they've evolved extremely strong defence mechanisms which sustain their illusion that they're perfect and superior'.

"I cannae mind"

When I lived in Dounreay back in 99/2000 , I used to hear this everywhere, I learned it means "I don't like", as in "I cannae mind sugar in my tea".

Foxed me for months.
