Dalmatian's error "a moment's inattention" by owner

AN incident in which a dog jumped up on a stranger, was put down to a moment's inattention by its owner by a sheriff, yesterday.

Sheriff Andrew Berry continued the case for six months to allow Louise Bain to demonstrate there would be no repeat offence.

Bain, 36, of 11 Port Dunbar, Wick, admitted causing Karen Simpson alarm or annoyance by suffering or permitting her Dalmatian to injure her, at Blingery Forrest on March 22.

The court, at Wick, was told that Bain had put the Dalmatian into her vehicle after a walk, but before managing to secure it properly, the dog sprang free through the open door and bounded up to Ms Simpson. She sustained a small scratch which did not break the skin,

Sheriff Berry, who accepted the incident would have been "an unpleasant experience" for Ms Simpson, commented, however that it was "far removed from some front page stories" regarding dogs and added he was satisfied it was not an offence that would be repeated by the accused.

No condition was imposed on Bain in respect of her future control of her dog..
