I was listening to an item on BBC 5Live Drive yesterday about a Government funded campaign to recruit and train more HGV drivers, especially female ones.

During the course of the interview with a trucking industry chappy, they discussed the merits of, and possible disadvantages of being a female truck drivers. Going to the loo was one thing that was mentioned and the chap from the trucking industry said something like "for example, in Scotland on the A9, there is not one ladies toilet".

Been a long time since I travelled that road, I know there are many loos in various villages along the way. Maybe he meant loos that were easily accessible and provided for HGV drivers.

I know D Steven Hauliers has at least one female driver, a young blond lady, I overtook her on the A174 on Teesside. How does she manage, I wonder??

So is this distinct lack of HGV ladies loos on the A9 true or not. (p.s. I won't lose any sleep over the answer, just thought it might introduce an interesting debate)

may be he was talking about service stations, no idea. but i did use to travel the country in a hgv. when travelling by hgv you do really want toilet facilities close to the road and not having to go off into towns and villages looking for a toilet.
i was once in a service station and they only had shower facilities for men, that were in the male toilets. i managed to get the service station manager to give me the key so i could lock the door and have a shower without other men seeing me.
but many a lay by has come to my need.

A bit disingenious of the trucking industry chappy. As well as being no ladies loos on the A9, there are no gents loos either.
There are of course public toilets, both off-route, and in towns like Golspie and Brora.
However, on the A9 south of Inverness, there are no public toilets or service stations, between Inverness and Perth.

Ballinluig is not north of Inverness, not the last time I looked anyway. And the services at Ballinluig are again off-route.

sorry meant north of Perth, although off road it is a dedicated truck stop as well as open to general public.

women drivers on artics or buses are general better drivers than guys because they drive the units more carefully and gentlyer than guys therfore reducing maintenance costs but the trouble is a lot of people dont relise this.
