Accused threw wife out of his car jury told

A GLASGOW man has been found guilty today of assaulting his wife and pursuing her after she left him to start a new life with another man.

Konstanty Bembnista, 68, will be sentenced, at Wick on September 28 when Sheriff Andrew Berry considers a background report.
,
Bembnista denied the reduced charge of assault when he repeatedly struck Marie Islam on the head and body and ejected her from his car in Harbour Road, Lybster between June 1991 and June 2003. They were then living at Kyleburn Cottage, in that street.

The accused also pleaded not guilty, on indictment, to a breach of the peace by pestering Mrs Islam after she moved to Edinburgh, by approaching her, phoning her, contrary to her wishes and putting her in a state of fear and alarm.

The jury took almost two hours to reach their verdicts. Sheriff Berry will also consider imposing a non-harassment order on Bembnista now living in Lancaster, when he returns to court.
