THE consortium behind the new £48.5 million Wick High school campus is no longer capable of running the project, according to parent council chairman, Iain Baikie. He hit out, after it was yesterday confirmed the building comprising the new high school, Newton Park primary and a community swim pool and library, will not open in October as planned.
JOHN O' GROATS is celebrating a hugely successful harbour day with crowds of people turning out to enjoy the show. The event, on Sunday, which raises money for the local football club rifle club and lifeboat, proved a big success with all manner of entertainments put on for people to enjoy, as well as a Land's End to John O' Groats cyclist rounding off the day with his arrival.

A POLICY of zero tolerance should be adopted towards dangerous dogs according to a local Highland councillor. Matthew Reiss, who represents the Landward Caithness ward, made the call after hearing that a light-coloured Staffordshire Bull Terrier had to be moved to Castletown by its owners following an incident.
EFFORTS to get Highland Council to take action over "an eyesore" site on the outskirts of Castletown, are being hampered by the failure to find paperwork. That emerged after the local community council complained about Mossy Garage being used as a vehicle dumping ground.
TALENTED local youngsters will be appearing in the latest programme on Caithness Music Television which is continuing to strike the right note with audiences all over the country. The young musicians, pupils of Addie Harper, will be playing accordion and fiddle in the show which was recorded at Wick High School. It will be transmitted on Wednesday September 14.
GROATS enjoyed another glory day on Saturday but not before they and their fans were put through the wringer in an absorbing Highland Cup fin al at Brora's Dudgeon Park. Kirkwall Thorfinn gave the Cathness county champions by far their toughest test of the season as players from both teams used up every joule of energy in 120 minutes of an intriguing contest.
