A LABOURER who broke a fellow nightclub patron's nose has escaped a jail term.

Stephen O' Kane was banned from Thurso's Skinandis nightspot for the eight months he is under supervision.

The 25-year-old was also ordered to pay James Maher compensation of £250 and carry out 108 hours of unpaid work in the community.

The incident occurred in the smoking area of Skinandis nightclub in Thurso on August 22, last year, Wick Sheriff Court heard yesterday.

Sheriff Andrew Berry told O' Kane, of 1 Meadow Court, Thurso, that drunken violence was not acceptable in any society and pointed out that the accused required to see CCTV footage before he had "any real idea" of what had occurred.

The sheriff, who saw a background report that the fact the accused's previous convictions for assault had occurred some years ago, allowed him to impose a non-custodial sentence.
