THE equipment for the new Wick High School has been slammed as inadequate and incomplete despite a promise of £95,000 for equipment and £20,000 for books. Iain Baikie, chairman of the school's parent council, is still concerned the budget to kit out the new £48.5 million building is not high enough and claims parents and pupils are being undersold.
A FORD Fiesta is being raffled to help Friends of Thor raise £36,000 for a trike track to be built in the garden area of Thor House. The track will have a special surface to make it safer for the specially-adapted trike and wheelchair users of the Thurso facility, to get around.

CAITHNESS Chocolate is celebrating winning an award from a group which describes itself as the Oscars of the food industry. The Wick multi-award-winning business entered the filled chocolates category of the Great Taste Awards and was chosen as a winner with its passion fruit chocolates.
HOUSEHOLDERS using Wick's recycling centre in a van, pick-up truck, sign-written vehicle or trailers, will have to complete a waste declaration form before visiting the site or face being turned away as the council targets commercial use. The move, approved by the community services committee, aims to eliminate illegal practice from commercial operators increasing recycling and improving skip availability at peak time for householders.
A BELGIAN company is to take an active role in the MeyGen tidal energy development in the Pentland Firth after acquiring a financial stake in the project. Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering, has paid £2m for a share in Tidal Power Scotland Ltd which is owned by Atlantis Resources, the company behind MeyGen.
WICK GROATS celebrated clinching five league championships in a row as they defeated their closest rival, Pentland United, to lift the title with two games to spare. Despite going behind to an early goal at Upper Bignold, Groats stormed back to take the lead before half-time and never looked like relinquishing the advantage. The final score: 2-1.
