HIGHLAND councillors are today due to discuss how the decision to leave the EU will affect the region. Council leader Margaret Davidson said: "The result of the referendum on Thursday will have considerable consequences for us all, over the coming months and years."

A HOME with a panoramic view out to sea and a historic clifftop stronghold in east Caithness, has gone on the market. POLLUTION officials have been called in, to investigate complaints about a vehicle dump on the outskirts of Castletown. Local community councillors are keen to see action taken, at the site which one describes as an eyesore.

CAITHNESS ladies born in the 1950s, are coming together to fight what they claim are hastily imposed changes to the state pension. Caithness Women Against State Pension Inequality, which has been formed as part of a UK campaign, is encouraging women to check the timing of their state pension entitlement and sign a constituency petition.

THURSO Gala Week organisers have been overwhelmed by the effort people have put in to take part in the carnival opening to the annual summer festival. The gala's launch on Saturday evening saw a horde of collectors in fancy dress turn out at the new venue in the car park alongside Ellan Bridge on Riverside Road, to gather as much money as they could, for local good causes.
