I was reading the bbc1 website and the lottery is giving £11.7 million to over 200 cinema to install state of the art digital projectors so the cinemas can make more proffit you would think the money could be spent on more needer causes first

It depends, if the new projectors were for cinemas like allstarfactory then yes it would be a waste of money. But if they were for small independent cinemas that specialise in arty films that have no financial backing then yes it is money well spent. If we only were able to watch the mainstream junk that comes out of Hollywood then British and especially Scottish culture will be eroded further. Small cinemas give budding film makers the chance to explore their talent when they know that big film studios won't entertain (pardon the pun) them financially.
