Accused admits being concerned in the supply of cannabis

A WICK drug dealer has been warned to expect a jail term when he re-appears in court for sentence later this month.

Darren Stewart, 23, pleaded guilty on indictment, previously, to a charge of being concerned in the supply of cannabis resin. The offence was said to have occurred between October 13, 2014, and June 1, 2015, at his home at 1A Upper Dunbar Street and 26 Huddart Street, both Wick.

Stewart was due to be sentenced today but it was postponed owing to a difference between the prosecution and defence over the value of the drugs.

Sheriff Andrew Berry told the accused: "You have been dealing in drugs in this community over a long period of time and I can say it is almost certainly the case, that a custodial sentence will follow in respect of this charge."

The case was continued until June 20 when the sheriff will hear an up-date on the value of the drugs.

Sheriff Berry also requested information as to how Stewart was able to purchase a significant quantity of the Class B drug while he was in receipt of benefits.

Stewart was remanded meantime.
