A CAITHNESS trust which administers a community wind-farm benefit fund, has reserves of £700,000. The figure emerged in a John O' Groat Journal investigation into the operations of funds set up to provide community spin-offs bankrolled by the operations of the fast-growing cluster of commercial-scale wind turbines.

SOUTH School, Wick is holding an open evening to allow the community to say goodbye before it shuts up shop in the autumn. Organisers are hoping to put on display, as much as possible, from the life and times of the Wick primary, at the event on June 9.

A WICK couple are making a renewed bid to have a new investigation into the sudden unexplained death of their son nearly 20 years ago. June and Hugh McLeod want to meet recently-appointed Police Scotland Chief Constable Philip Gormley to discuss their son Kevin's death in February 1997. They believe Kevin was the victim of a serious assault before he ended up in Wick harbour where his body was recovered the following day.

A CAITHNESS charity helping young carers, is over the moon with the support and donations it is receiving from the community. Caithness Klics (Kids Living in Caring Situations) earlier this week accepted a cheque from Wick Boots whose staff and have chosen to raise money for it this year, by holding fundraising events.

AN international bowler, a record-breaking rugby player and a boccia expert and UK Special Olympian are this year's Caithness Sports Council's award winners.

A WICK-BASED charity launched a drive to upgrade the service it can offer local people who suffer from multiple sclerosis. The MS Therapy Centre aims to raise £15,000 so it can increase the range of equipment and the numbers able to use its base in Smith Terrace, overlooking the harbour.

THE company which owns the MeyGen tidal energy venture in Caithness made a profit of £2.1 million last year. Edinburgh-based Atlantis Resources made the profit largely as a result of its acquisition of Marine Current Turbines from Siemens last summer and its gain in Atlantis Operations Canada.
