A DOG owner was yesterday recovering from a vicious attack from a pit bull as she attempted to defend her son's pet dog. Helen MacDonald was taking her son Calum's King Charles spaniel, Brogan, out for an early evening walking on the outskirts of Lybster on Monday, when she said the pit bull ran straight towards her and the other dog.

A SUNKEN crab boat, which claimed the life of a Thurso fisherman and two others, is to be raised from the sea bed. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch wants to salvage the MV Louisa as part of its probe to find out what caused it to founder off the Western Isles last month.

AIR links between the Highlands and Heathrow were reinstated this week following the launch of a new daily service to and from Inverness, operated by British Airways. FINAL preparations are being made at venues across the county which are being turned into polling stations for tomorrow's Holyrood election. Highland Council has confirmed 24 polling stations in Caithness will be open for 15 hours to allow people to decide who they want to elect as MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross.
