A FAR north mother, who lost her son in a car accident, has described him as a man who loved the outdoors and lived life to the full. Dean Meiklejohn from Thurso, was killed when his Ford Fiesta collided with a NIssan Quashqui hear the sharp bend on the A9 opposite the entrance to the town's cemetery last Thursday.

Merlin Cinemas has signed a deal with Denbighshire Council to take over the Scala Cinema in Prestatyn which had been run by former Thurso Cinema Limited owner, Rob Arthur.

THE new county flag of Caithness has been given the seal of approval by Scotland's first minister during her tour of the Caithness Sutherland and Ross constituency. Nicola Sturgeon was presented with the blued, black nd yellow county emblem, by Wick Highland councillor and SNP Holyrood constituency candidate, Gail Ross during a visit to Ross-shire.

THE famous cycling route from Land's End to John O' Groats, has been revealed in a new book detailing everything a person would need to know to complete the journey in 14 days. The End to End Cycle route has just been released by Nick Mitchell, a passionate long-distance cycle tourist, who has completed the journey many times and knows it inside out.

FIFTH place and landing a trophy for the first time in the club's history has satisfied management at Wick Academy enough that the 2015/16 can be deemed a successful one. Assistance manager Richard Hughes said to round off the campaign on Saturday with a 4-0 victory at Fraserburgh, was a fantastic result given the men they had missing in defence for the trip to Bellslea.
