PLANS to allow Ministry of Defence and Police Scotland staff to train at the Dounreay firing range have been blasted as being "over the top". David MacDonald who lives bout 200 metres from the range, is unhappy with the proposal which is due to come into effect in the summer.

A CAITHNESS mum was filled with birthday joy when her little boy, Kayden Gordon, threw aside a stick which helps him to walk and strode proudly into his nursery in front of all his friends. Kayden had a successful operation in America in January, to help him to walk and he took his first steps a couple of weeks ago in Perth, after undergoing a session of intensive physiotherapy.

ELDERLY residents at a housing complex in Thurso, are being treated in "a diabolical way" by Highland Council. That is the claim made by 98-year-old Bob Thorne who lives in the amenity homes at Oldfield Court. He said that residents there and at Angus Court and Queen's Terrace, are paying towards the cost of a warden - but not getting him.

WICK Christmas lights will shine long into the future with a crowd of support turning out to replace the retiring organising committee. Former chairwoman, Doreen Turner, said she and the committee were overwhelmed with the number of people who showed an interest at the AGM in being involved, to make sure the festive lights stay on.

LOCAL divers have taken the first opportunity of good weather to dive on what is known as the Railway Wreck at Brims Ness. Caithness Diving Club members have been waiting for a break in the surge, which is always found there, making it difficult to dive close to the shore to give them a chance to explore the wreck of the Hamburg steamer Aase.

CAITHNESS Chamber of Commerce has won recognition for its commitment to establishment and developing the careers of young people. It has achieved Investors in Young People silver accreditation, the industry standard for the training and development of young people.
