Second knife offence lands accused six months in prison

A MAN has been jailed for six months after admitted his second offence of carrying a knife in public.

Sheriff Andrew Berry dismissed Gary Bell's explanation that he was going to be fishing.

Bell, 32, admitted being in possession of the knife in Bankhead Road, Wick, on June 12, last year and soon after, at the local police station nearby.

The accused, who was on bail at the time, had gone to the police to get assistance with some paperwork but officers became suspicious and a search revealed the lockable knife,

Wick Sheriff Court was told today.

Sheriff Andrew Berry recalled that Bell, of 2 Calder Square, Castletown village, had escaped jail for his previous offence in which he used a knife to slash the tyres of a vehicle, and told him he had not learned his lesson.

The sheriff added: "Carrying a knife from a public point of view, has to be treated seriously".
