Sheriff warns pub assault accused not to re-offend

A YOUNG man, who assaulted the doorman at a Wick pub, was admonished at the town's sheriff court today but warned to stay out of trouble.
Sheriff Andrew Berry took the "exceptional" step after hearing that Corey Barnetson, 21, had behaved during the past six months.
The sheriff gave him the chance to prove it in September after Barnetson was found guilty after a trial, of assaulting Andrew Macleod at the Camps Bar, Wick, on March 14, last year, by punching him. The accused had denied the charge.
Sheriff Berry told first offender Barnetson of 56 Kennedy Terrace, Wick: " I think drink played a part in this, but is critical that nothing like it happens again."
The sheriff stressed that a similar sentence would not be an option, if there was a repeat offence.
