Accused will carry out 225 hours unpaid work

A THURSO man has been ordered to carry out 225 hours unpaid work in the community after admitting on indictment being concerned in the supply of cannabis resin, in the town.

Wick Sheriff Court heard today that Jamie Lee Lewis, 27, was a drug user at the time and had sold on the balance of the resin, surplus to requirements.

Lewis, of 2 Riverside Terrace, Thurso, said to have been drug free since the offence, which occurred between July 1 and August 16, 2012.

Sheriff Andrew Berry said he had only just been persuaded not to jail the accused, who has a record, but warned him that if he "made a mess" of his unpaid work, the case would come back to court and prison would be the likely outcome.
