What a shame and a big let down after last years being so organised with a band, games for the kids, DJ and a brilliant atmosphere, where as this year was a total let down and no one was informing anyone of what was going on.

Why don't you just book the hall and organise it yourself or get some friends together and do it together, that way you do it the way you want it done

Its not the point of how l want it done its the point of what was posted out on the flyers to all the houses then left sitting not knowing whats happening.I am happy at home but last year was a good turn out, games for the local kids, community spirit, I just felt sorry for them

Looked like a good night was had from photos of those that went and had fun!
It is somewhere to meet and take in the New Year since going round the houses first footing is dying out.
You will still have to chat and get the crack with others at a "do" in a village hall ...
Sometimes the entertainment is provided othertimes you have to make your own ...and sometimes it is nice to chat without the noise of a band etc..
Usually everyone mucks in but it sounds like you just expected everything to go smoothly and that isn't what a village night out is about...It is about banding together as a community and making the best ...sometimes everyone that is musical takes a turn ...everyone provides snacks ..we share..Kids run riot playing chase etc not really bothering anyone too much without organised games ....everyone dances/watches dancing ...then everyone goes home!

Well said Dadie.
If you are not sure what is happening - you have a tongue which is usually used for talking so ask what is happening and this may have broken the ice in which you seem to have surrounded yourself.
Join in and let your hair down, anything usually goes in village hall parties, everyone pulls together.

Oh im reminicing about "big" hall parties ...anything goes ...everyone has a chance at a "shotty" on the stage so to speak..anyone that can sing/play an instrument half good or better...
Everyone bands together to make the night good ...quiet times to blether and kids able to run riot (within reason...playing catch or other kid organised games etc )... then dancing then awld langs syne and home!
The ladies try to outdo each other on homemade foods-sarnies, soup and baking ....guys add crisps n pop...
Bottles on the tables ....to be sampled if offered..
Everyone has a blether and a wee dance to *bad** music ...
Not designed to be the best night ever for any age group ...but an OK night out for all!
No fighting ...within premises ...no really drunk people ...just a nice time .
We will try to go next year as one of the kids flagged by 9pm and wasn't nice by then...and the birthday party on the 1st Jan is more important to the bday boy!
The parties in the hall will get more important as the years go on....kids get older ...and need the same amount of looking after by the community as other generations and the older ones need to be able to put faces to names ....

Yup it was brilliant last year, no one new what was happening this time when asked but not many came and those that did just sat in there own little group, it was better with some of the older folk to they mix more. But do long as they had fun its good, shame that those who organised it got leg down by the music after they tried to organise and put out flyers.

No l dont think everything should be provided and sometimes the younger adults dont mix like the older ones did last year, l have grown up in community coming together and this was not the case, also this year was different it was bring your own snacks for your own table last year was put it on a commnuity table bringing people togethet.and the kids lovec the games last year that wad organised.

I noticed on the groups facebook page that the disco cancelled at the last minute so i'd say that they did the best they could in the circumstances. Watten is a community that has great organisation for events and great community spirit. There isn't many villages that stick together these days. I also believe the event was free, you get nothing for free these days! Look at all the events that have taken place over the years and look at the amazing playpark that the group fundraised hard to get. Instead of complaining about one event be grateful for everything that the group have done for your village...
