Online operation was "therapeutic" claims depressed accused

AN elderly woman decided to embark on an online jewellery business to help her through her depression.
Only trouble was, a couple of May Dixon's 100-or-so lines, breached Trading Standards Regulations, Wick Sheriff Court heard at the weekend.
One item, a bracelet, purporting to be sterling silver was in fact, plate silver. The customer who purchased it, wasn't happy and reported the matter to Trading Standards. A second item similar to a registered trademark of Tiffany Co or T & Co, didn't have the firm's approval.
Trading Standards mounted an investigation and a six-strong party of police officers raided Dixon's home in Golf View Place, Lybster, on October 9, 2013. She pleaded guilty but claimed that the online sideline was "a therpeutic hobby".
Sheena Mair said that in the case of the bracelet, Dixon had relied on the description of it given by her supplier.
The solicitor said that Dixon was "absolutely distraught" at having committed the offences and was"mortified" each time she attended court.
Miss Mair added that the accused's home being searched after finding what felt like riot police standing on her doorstep, had not been "a nice experience" and had been " a horrid time" for her.
Dixon, who pleaded guilty, was ordered to carry out 72 hours unpaid work in the community, by Sheriff Andrew Berry.
