Cockenzie is to shut down , not just because it's coal fired but mainly the unfair cost of line transmissions. Westminster tories have stopped renewable developments, and cancelled the development contract into carbon capture. Yet they seem to be hell bent on fracking for gas generation and going nuclear. Scotland dos'nt need or want either .

Totally agree write to sturegeon re fracking as your party is pretty cosy with fracking operators, talking with them and accepting monies from an operator during the agreed fracking morotorium. As for tories and carbon capture....hypocrites and non entities

The coal-fired power station was forced to close due to the Large Combustion Plant Directive (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Combustion_Plant_Directive) (LCPD). This is an EU directive that aims to reduce acidification, ground level ozone and particulates by controlling the emissions of sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen and dust from large combustion plants.
