I wonder do we sometimes just hear the tune and a few snatches of words when it comes to ‘pop songs’ – I know they don’t always register with me – especially today!
However, there is one song by The Hollies that I have always loved.
I lost my brother a few days before Christmas and lately I have found myself singing snatches of the song here and there so I looked up the words on the Web – they are so profound – this song will always have a very special place in my heart. LB

"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"

The road is long, with many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where, who knows where
But I'm strong, strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

So on we go, his welfare is my concern
No burden is he to bare, we'll get there
For I know he would not encumber me
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

If I'm laden at all, I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart isn't filled with gladness of love for one another
It's a long long road from which there is no return
While we're on our way to there, why not share
And the load, it doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy - he's my brother
He ain't heavy - he's my brother, he's my brother, he's my brother

So sorry to hear you lost your brother a few days before Christmas, LB. :(

I've always liked that song, and it has a special place in my heart too. Just a few months ago, it was playing on the radio, as I was driving home from work. As I was listening, it occured to me that it would be an appropriate song for my two sons, aged 22 and 17. Although they are 5 years apart, they are the best of friends, and always have been. My husband and I are very proud of that fact, and that they always help each other out, no matter what! :)

Sorry to hear of yer loss LB.But as always here's a wee ditty for mine.

Ya big scurmish of a guy yer a bully
Ye say I dinnae take life serious,I'm a fooly
Ye telt me that ma better pictures werenae fair
So ye started pullin on ma hair

Then forward later by aboot 20 odd years
I'm gettin married and the beers flowin,CHEERS
But theres no more hair pullin cos we're awld
And hardly a hair on oor heids cos we're bald

I push trollies all day for ma livin
To fight for yer country is what ye are given
So when ye dae yer stuff in Iraq
Big bro I'll see ye when ye come back

Good one Ced - I hope it won't be too long before you can have a pint with your brother and remember when you both had hair to pull. :D
