A CAITHNESS exile, on holiday in Paris, has spoken of eerily quiet city streets following Friday evening's terrorist attack which sent shock waves around the world. Duncan Carter arrived in Paris just hours before a series of co-ordinated shootings and explosions brought the city to a sudden halt. At least 129 people died during the attacks for which Islamic State has claimed responsibility.
GOOD things are "app-ening" at Wick High School according to one of the app industry's leading figures who met students to inspire new mobile app ideas that could become a major commercial success. Thomson Reuters, head of advanced product innovation Bob Schukal was impressed with the level of talent which exists at the school, that has seen pupils achieve a number of awards as part of the Apps for Good programme.
A STAGECOACH boss has claimed a bus service, which takes pupils from Staxigoe to Wick High School -due to be scrapped on Friday - could be reintroduced next week if Highland Council would accept a revised timetable. Steve Walker, managing director of Stagecoach North, said the firm had a solution to the planned reduction in the 76 service which would prevent the youngsters having to walk two miles to school.
SERCO Northlink is on course to record a bumper number of passengers using its Scrabster to Stromness route this year. Figures obtained in a Freedom of Information request, reveal that between January and July, MV Hamnavoe transported 72,651 passengers between the Caithness port and Orkney.
POLICE cannot reveal how many burgled homes in the Highlands were investigated by specialist crime scene investigators. A request was made to the Force under the Freedom of Information Act but it said the statistics would be too costly to retrieve from its computers.
GORDON Connelly is almost making no apologies for fielding a weakened team against Formartine United tonight, saying the North of Scotland Cup final on Saturday is the club's first priority.
